On a windswept Öland night 1,500 years ago, terror struck. In a coastal stone ringfort known as Sandby Borg, families settled by their hearths never imagined the horror to come.
Yes, I have a friend on the island and she told me that not too long ago people wouldn’t even go near the place. She was told as a child that this was an evil place.
And then when they started the excavation and found the bodies as is, incredible.
I hope the mystery of who the attackers were will be solved. Have the archeologists done any DNA testing to find modern descendants? A German friend of mine found that she is descended from “The Ice Man,” discovered in the Austrian Alps. She was amazed.
I don't think so. I don't know if you are allowed, but it would be cool if they could add it to ancestry or some other similar platform.
But I'm guessing that there might be relatives in the area. It is an island, and depending what they find when they keep digging, if almost all the women were taken, chances are that they might have had children.
Exceptionally fascinating!
Thank you, I think so too, and haunting and horrible.
Wow. This was an incredibly sad read but so interesting.
It's wild that the locals always got bad vibes from the place. I wonder what happened.
