It's actually one of the things I like in this story: the "its looks like it's set long ago, but impossible to tell when exactly". It gives it a very folktale-like quality.
Ahhh long ago? First I planned it as a plague story, now it's more uncertain.

I am going for a dark folklore feeling, all the placenames exist and from where I live.
It certainly adds to the... realism? (not sure if it's a good word for such a story!)
Dark folklore set in places the author personally knows... That's a good aesthetic. I wish we had more fiction like that.
